The Pros and Cons Of Jute Rugs

Have you ever wondered how to style a jute rug? It can be tough to know how to style certain items when it comes to home décor and it sometimes seems that no matter what you do, it doesn’t look right. A jute rug is a great addition but it can be hard to know how to use it to its full advantage.

There are both pros and cons to using jute as a material. We wanted to share these with you with some helpful tips on how to style jute rugs at the end.

Pros Of Using Jute

There are plenty of benefits to using a jute rug in your home. One that many homeowners like is that they are extremely easy to clean and are very low maintenance. Spills can be mopped up easily and it can be easily hoovered to remove any dirt. They are also very affordable which is great for people shopping on a budget.

Jute is a great material which is recyclable and biodegradable. Many jute rugs are often handwoven using natural fibres so if you are eco-friendly, it could be a fantastic choice for you. The fact that they are often handwoven often means they can be quite unique and make a real talking point in your home. They are often super stylish and never go out of style!

They last a long time and are extremely durable – jute rugs don’t show anywhere near as much wear and tear as other materials do.

Cons Of Using Jute

A jute rug, whilst water resistant, can discolour if it gets wet or even potentially shrink. Avoid getting it wet if you can. There is the potential for sunlight exposure to discolour them too if they are constantly getting the sun on them.

Whilst they are quite durable, heavy use may see the material break down so it isn’t advisable to have them in areas of the home which see the most footfall. Lounge settings will be fine, but avoid placing heavy objects such as sofas on their pile.

Other rug materials tend to be softer than jute so if you are looking for a rug to sit on comfortably or that feels nice underfoot, jute might not be the right material for you. Instead why don’t you take a look at our wool rug range?

Style it by popping one at the foot of your bed for a focal point. Add some neutral cushions and a blanket to your bed and it can look great!

If you are using jute rugs in your living room, you might want to consider laying them – different patterns can be really striking and capture the attention – meaning they are not only practical but they look great.
